There is no doubt that when the Italian brand Ducati develops a product for a specific segment, it borders on it.

It had been a long time since the demeanor, agility and ease of handling of a motorcycle purpose-built to take on all sorts of excursions, both road and country, caught our attention. We are talking about the Ducati DesertX model.

Ever since we saw it at the dealer, we were drawn to it. On the one hand, physically through its powerful front, with double round headlights, spoked wheels with 21 inch tires on the front wheel and 18 inch tires on the rear wheel, long-stroke suspension so as not to rub against the bottom at all times, 25 centimeters separate the protector from the crankcase to the ground. Once installed in the comfortable and wide seat, the first thing that catches our eye is the fully digital instrument panel, just behind the wide windshield. In this, apart from the main details of normal use, speed, revs, etc., it indicates the gear placed and the possibility to adjust the general behavior to our liking. It has six different driving modes for this, two of which are specific
for off road use, called Enduro or Rally. Once the parameters are chosen, such as traction control, anti-lock brake sensitivity or power delivery, we can start and enjoy this motorcycle.

The six available gears shift seamlessly and easily at the slightest hint of the gear lever. Thanks to this, its relations are very well studied to adapt to the environment in which we want to trade, short first gears and a more comfortable final, it squeezes power perfectly (
110 horses) arising from the two-cylinder engine, the latest evolution of the Testastretta 11th Desmo with a displacement of almost one litre. This engine is the same as the latest generation Monster and Multistrada V2.

The braking part is entrusted to the prestigious and effective Brembo brand, with four-piston radial calipers, an axial pump and twin discs of 320 mm on the front axle and 235 mm on the rear axle that provide great stopping power in almost every situation.

The 202 kilograms this motorcycle weighs empty makes riding easy and efficient at all times. The riding position is comfortable and designed for long journeys while standing, although sitting on the soft seat with two heights allows you to take long journeys without fatigue. This chair has a ground clearance of
875 millimetersslightly high but there is an option for a lower one for shorter drivers.

Once on the road, the first thing you have to get used to is how short the first gears are, suitable for off-roading. Once accustomed to this important issue, driving is easy and, above all, exudes a lot of safety. Both in a curve and in a straight line, the DesertX gives the driver very good sensations in terms of ease of operation. Long journeys, see journeys, are very well solved in the sense of few stops thanks to the good autonomy offered by the capacity of the fuel tank. This cubic 21 liters and in addition there is an option to house an accessory tank with another eight liters at the rear in the style of the old Paris-Dakar. With the standard tank you can almost travel
400 kilometers you don’t have to stop to refuel.

On the other hand, the studied aerodynamics and protection
allows many miles thanks to the large windshield and hand protection. Returning to behavior, on an unmoving straight line, while in areas with all kinds of turns, fast and slow, this Ducati offers a very high stability and lightness, also thanks to the electronic aids it contains. We were also able to test it off-road in a short period of time, as we were alone, which is not recommended, and with the mixed tires the experience was also positive, although we changed all the electronic parameters to allow off-road to drive.

This model has a clear destination, apart from being used for almost everything, see city, highway, travel or off-road, it has also been thought of for the most novice and with fewer years of driving license, as a limited version is launched on the market brought for the A2 driving license with less power. The truth is that
this new route from the Italian firm, in addition to attracting attention for its spectacular appearance, it offers good and powerful performance, varied electronics that can be adapted to taste and everything with top quality elements, as well as excellent finishes and all with prices starting from the 16,390 euros.
