Dacia Duster LPG: result and economic

Date:

The Dacia company has shown in recent years that it has a price/quality ratio that has convinced a large group of buyers. When the brand arrived in Spain, they advertised a simple “open, close” while showing images of a door. They were cars designed to get from point A to point B with ease. But over the years, their improvements in both finish and design have allowed their products to top the sales charts.

On this occasion, we tested the second generation Duster. A car that, in terms of segment, that of SUVs, and in terms of price, from just over 16,000 euros, has enough appeal to succeed. But in addition, the vehicle is the petrol and LPG version, with which we achieve on the one hand a very tight consumption, which is very important to take into account the current increase in fuel prices, and we also have the ECO eco-friendly label of the DGT , stating that we have access to the restricted areas of the cities.

In the aesthetic part, with the Duster we find everything from those who find it ugly to those who defend its lines recognizable by traditional 4X4s, although in this case the TCe ECO-G version is a front-wheel drive equipped with road tires . We can’t afford too much off-road fun on paper, but the ground clearance and entry and exit level seem to tell us otherwise. In any case, it rolls perfectly on unpaved and poorly paved roads.

The striking orange color and the black plastic moldings and protectors accentuate the feeling of an adventure vehicle and add points.

Equipped with the 101 CV petrol engine, in the trunk, instead of the spare wheel, it mounts an auxiliary tank where the natural gas is stored. The car starts with petrol and automatically switches to LPG when it has reached the optimum operating temperature, until it runs out or we manually select the petrol option. We can’t say it’s the fastest car on the road at just over 1,300 pounds, but it should be confessed in defense that it’s not far behind comparable vehicles at legal speeds either. On our route, we combined urban, highway and conventional roads. And except for the climb to the Villatoro pass on the way to the town of El Barco de Ávila, we didn’t have to fully press the accelerator or downshift to reach the desired speed.

This “fair” power is compensated by very good consumption, as it homologates 3.6 kilos of LPG per 100 km, which for €1.25 (during the test days) gave us a performance comparable only to the years before the pandemic .

Inside the car we find a dashboard with hard plastics, but well adjusted. With regard to the first generation, much has been gained in terms of quality and hardness of the seats. And at the wheel we do not miss, neither the driving assistants, nor the GPS navigator, which is also very easy to use and accessible via a screen with large buttons. It is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and has six speakers scattered throughout the interior.

Engine: 101 km LPG petrol

Consumption: 3.8/3.9k/100km

Length/width/height (in meters): 4.34/1.80/1.69

Trunk: from 445 to 1,478 liters

Price: from 16,050 euros

Both the front and rear seats can comfortably accommodate four or five adults, and we also have a trunk that, despite being partly occupied by the petrol tank, leaves us free from 445 to 1,478 litres. Very correct to travel as a family without restrictions. As for the price, this gas version starts at 16,050 euros and the most equipped reaches a very sensible 19,250 euros.
