At least 16 people were killed in a terrible traffic accident in southeastern Turkey on Saturday. The accident, which involved a bus, a fire engine and an ambulance, left 21 others injured. This was announced by the governor of Gaziantep province, Davut Gül.
The dead included firefighters, medical personnel and two journalists, Gül said at the scene of the accident. The journalists originally came to report an earlier accident on the O-52 (E90) highway between Gaziantep and Nizip. An approaching bus then crashed, flipped over and hit an ambulance and the radio of the journalists.
The two journalists worked for the state-affiliated agency IHA, according to state broadcaster TRT. A broadcaster’s report could be heard sobbing loudly. The agency’s cameraman, who was on hand to cover the deaths of his colleagues, “couldn’t hold back his tears,” TRT said.
The injured have been taken to hospitals. The extent of her injury was initially unknown.
