A horrific accident happened on the Alpenstraße in the city of Salzburg on Sunday afternoon: a Mercedes SUV lost control of its vehicle, scraped past the guest yard of a fast food chain and hit pedestrians. Three people were seriously injured, several slightly injured. The Alpenstrasse is closed in both directions.
Two prams were said to have been hit by the car. Two rescue helicopters and six ambulances were deployed. The Alpenstraße is currently closed in both directions.
According to information from “Krone”, a Mercedes SUV coming from the south in the direction of the city center near the McDonalds branch may have lost control of the vehicle, leaving it in the yard of the fast-food restaurant near the street crashed. The driver is said to be an elderly gentleman from the Bavarian district of Berchtesgadenerland and his wife was also in the car.
The Red Cross assumes that the driver has a medical cause.
Update: A child and the driver of the car are believed to be one of three seriously injured. Life-threatening injuries cannot be ruled out in the case of two seriously injured. A crisis intervention team is now also deployed on site.
