Use in Tyrol – attack of a cow: 44 students and teachers were taken from the mountain

Date:

A group of 44 students and teachers from the US will probably not soon forget this excursion in Tyrol. In the Kalkkögel area, hikers were apparently attacked by cows on Sunday. After fleeing to a mountaintop and darkness fell, they lost their orientation, whereupon the teachers made a distress call.

The 40 students between the ages of eight and 18 and the four teachers left quite late for the tour. Around 4 pm the American group took the cable car in Axamer Lizum to the so-called “Hoadl” and from there to hike over the Widdersberg to the “Halsl”.

“fled uphill to the Nockspitze”
And then it should have happened: “In the ‘Halsl’ area, the group was suddenly attacked by several cows, after which the students and teachers fled up the mountain in the direction of the Nockspitze,” the police said.

Apparently neither the students nor the teachers dared to go further. Due to the falling darkness, the teachers could no longer orient themselves. They didn’t know what else to do and made an emergency call.

Hypothermic but unharmed back to shelter
The alarmed mountain rescuers then joined the American group and took them to nearby Birgitzalm. From there, the students and teachers were returned to their accommodation by the fire brigade and the Alpine police. Everyone involved was unharmed but slightly hypothermic.
