During a tour of the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in the Chancellery in Berlin, there was an incident at the government open day. Two women stood next to Scholz on Sunday with the desire for a selfie. But then they took off their tops, proving that there should be a gas embargo against Russia: “Gas embargo now,” the two women had written on their bare chests.
The protesters also pulled flyers from their pants and threw them in the air. “Go gas embargo now!” they cried repeatedly. They were immediately pushed aside by guards. Scholz was not disturbed by the incident, in fact he seemed amused.
The German government, like the Austrian government, has so far rejected a complete ban on the import of Russian natural gas on the grounds that a safe energy supply cannot be guaranteed otherwise. However, Russia for its part has now greatly reduced supplies.
Gas will soon come from somewhere else
Scholz also referred in a public discussion to alternative import routes, including new liquefied gas terminals, the first of which we can hope to be operational early next year. More will follow in the course of the year. “Then we will have solved our security of supply problem sometime in early 2024,” the chancellor continued.
