Despite a positive corona test, a 96-year-old mayoral candidate whistled because of a TV interview about the isolation. In court, the Tyrolean was unreasonable and was sentenced to a fine. He wants to take action against the decision because he can ‘never, never’ pay.
At the age of 96, he made headlines in February as Tyrol’s oldest candidate for mayor. But former mayor Walfried Reimeir ultimately failed to take the municipal throne in Steinach am Brenner.
“I don’t feel guilty”
A TV interview in the course of the election is now costing the busy pensioners dearly. He had recently tested positive for the coronavirus and whistled about the imposed quarantine. “I don’t feel guilty because I doubt the correctness of the test result,” the 96-year-old stormed into court in Innsbruck on Thursday.
Wasn’t wearing a mask either
After all, he didn’t have the slightest symptoms. “There are several who have not felt anything,” said Judge Helga Moser, who wanted to know why he was not wearing an FFP2 mask during the interview. “I didn’t infect anyone. I should have known,” was the justification of the unreasonable local politician.
He also had himself tested prior to the interview. “But the result didn’t come in time,” Reimeir explained. He still won’t admit that the test was also positive.
‘Will appeal against ruling in the last instance’
Judge Moser eventually imposed a semi-conditional fine of 8,000 euros on Reimeir, who collects a nice pension every month. The verdict is not yet legally binding. “I will challenge the decision to the last instance,” the 96-year-old Tyrolean remained stubborn and nevertheless asked how many days he would have to spend behind bars. Because he could ‘never, never’ pay the fine.
