Six people were injured in Brussels on Friday when a van crashed into the gardens of two restaurants. The driver then fled, but was arrested a short time later. He is now on trial for attempted murder.
Prosecutors did not provide any information on the identity of the man currently in custody. It is also unclear whether it was an attack or just an accident.
“Facts Reminds of Attacks”
“I know that the facts are reminiscent of attacks that have taken place in the past, but we do not yet know whether this case is definitively an attack,” said Willemien Baert, spokeswoman for the public prosecutor, at the press conference on Friday evening.
The incident happened early Friday afternoon in the popular old town of Brussels. All victims complained of only minor injuries and did not need to be taken to hospital by rescue services.
