A serious mountain drama occurred on Monday in the three-country point between Germany, Vorarlberg and Tyrol. On Mindelheim’s via ferrata, a woman traveling with her husband and an acquaintance fell 300 meters through rocky terrain to her death for reasons not yet elucidated.
In the early Monday afternoon, a couple and an acquaintance climbed the via ferrata from Mindelheim in the municipality of Oberstdorf (Bavaria). Shortly before the end of the via ferrata, the 55-year-old woman fell alone at an unsecured point. She fell about 300 meters over rocky terrain and suffered fatal injuries.
Austrian rescuers in action
As at the same time the Bavarian emergency services got stuck due to another mountain accident, help was requested from Austria. The dead were eventually recovered by red-white-red rescuers. The Austrian police and helpers also looked after the relatives.
