Lemon tree pruned – Young man stung by more than 20,000 deadly bees

Date:

In the US state of Ohio, a young man has been stung thousands of times by deadly bees and seriously injured. Austin Bellamy, 20, had to be placed in an artificial coma and on artificial ventilation, Fox 19 reported on Wednesday. According to his family, he was stabbed more than 20,000 times.

Bellamy was busy pruning overgrown branches on the tree on Friday morning while his grandmother Phyllis Edwards and uncle watched from the ground. Suddenly Austin accidentally cut into a nest of African killer bees: “When he started cutting them (the branches), the bees came out,” Edwards told Fox19. “He yelled, ‘Help, help me, help’ and no one helped him.”

30 Killer Bees Swallowed
“It looked like he had a black blanket on his head, neck and arms,” his mother, Shawna Carter, told the broadcaster. He was stung more than 20,000 times by African insects and even swallowed about 30 bees. Bellamy’s uncle and grandmother were also attacked and unable to help.

“I wanted to try to climb the ladder to get to Austin…I saw how tall he was…but I couldn’t get to him because I was surrounded by bees,” Edwards said. The young man was not removed from the tree until firefighters arrived.

Staff had to suck bees out of him
Bellamy was then flown by plane to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, while Edwards was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, local press reported. The 20-year-old was put on a ventilator and placed in an artificial coma. Bellamy’s mother told Fox19 that hospital staff sucked the bees out of him on Sunday morning.

Bellamy finally woke up Wednesday but remains in the hospital, Carter said on Facebook. Doctors expect him to make a full recovery.
