A dramatic incident occurred in Upper Austria on Thursday. An 11-year-old may have driven a farm job in Überackern (Braunau district), lost control and thrown from the driver’s cab. The child’s head was caught between the roof and the road, and all attempts at resuscitation by the helpers were unsuccessful.
Very sad and dramatic scenes unfolded on Thursday evening in the 681-strong community of Überackern in the immediate border area with Germany. According to the first “Krone” information, shortly after 7 p.m., a farmer’s track fell at the municipal green waste collection point.
An eleven-year-old boy from Burghausen (Germany) must have driven the Hoftrack himself. The child was sitting on a 30-year-old man’s lap – but it shouldn’t have been his father. It is not yet clear whether there was any other relationship between the two.
Thrown from the driver’s cab
The boy steered the tractor too far and collided with a pile of manure, causing the agricultural path to tip over. The child was thrown from the cabin. The farm vehicle landed on top of him, his head wedged between the asphalt and the roof.
Helpers fought for the child’s life for minutes
“When we arrived, the boy was already free and we immediately started resuscitation measures,” said Jürgen Bernecker, commander of the volunteer fire brigade in Überackern. An ambulance, helicopter and police were also called. The helpers fought for the child’s life for minutes – unfortunately in vain. The boy succumbed to his serious injuries at the scene of the accident.
The cause of the fatal accident is still under investigation. The severely shocked family had to be taken care of by a crisis intervention team.
More and more fatal accidents with tractors
In July, a 12-year-old German child was seriously injured in a tractor accident in Innerschwand am Mondsee. The farmer (56) who was driving the vehicle has died. And in the Freistadt district at the end of June, a nine-year-old rolled over his mother with a tractor. She too was seriously injured.
