Fewer infections – Orange in sight at the Corona traffic light

Date:

The drop in infections and testing this week was not enough to get a state out of the corona risk area. The responsible committee colored the entire country red again on Thursday. However, several states are now only slightly away from the risk number of 100, from which it goes to lower levels. On the positive side, the number of infections declined throughout the 14-day trend.

That it goes quite quickly is apparent from the risk number, which is used to assess the risk situation on the basis of various parameters. A week ago, Carinthia was still at 337 and is now at 181. Styria even fell from 310 to 136. It was in the state with the best starting value that the risk figure fell the least: in Vienna it fell from 189 to 133, which means that the corona traffic light in the federal capital is still red.

Encouraging trend among the over-65s
In any case, the number of infections fell not only in general in all federal states, but also everywhere in the particularly vulnerable group of people over 65. Nevertheless, a slight further increase in the number of corona patients is expected in the normal wards in the next two weeks. Constant occupancy is predicted for the intensive care units. The Commission naturally assumes that the numbers in hospitals will continue to fall sharply in the near future.

Vienna tests by far the most
The number of tests with the quota in effect since Friday has fallen less than expected. A week ago there were almost 59,000 tests per 100,000 inhabitants, but there were at least 51,000. The Viennese remain undisputedly the most willing to test with a value of almost 93,000. Just over 19,500 to 100,000 inhabitants live in Tyrol. In the federal capital, the number of cases that were (still) asymptomatic when the test was positive has dropped slightly, but is still a respectable 63 percent. At 2.1 percent, you also have – all tests together – the lowest positivity rate in Vienna.

For the first time this week, figures for individual districts were no longer reported in the Commission’s working paper – available to the APA. According to the AGES dashboard, Mistelbach had its worst reading over the past seven days. Kitzbühel has the best value.

The Commission urges caution in view of the upcoming Easter holidays. The risk of spreading is still high, so general protective measures (such as hand hygiene, distance and possibly testing) should be observed during public holiday gatherings, especially for vulnerable people, e.g. in nursing homes.
