Demolition work on a building on Neumarkt in Styria was no less dramatic. There, the vehicle of a 33-year-old was hit by a falling elevator shaft. The man then became trapped in the excavator and suffered serious injuries.
Around 12:00, the 33-year-old from the Liezen district carried out demolition work on a building with a crawler excavator. He stood in a pile of rubble with the excavator and started to break down the approximately twelve meters high concrete elevator shaft.
Elevator shaft fell on excavator
Suddenly the elevator shaft broke free from the existing building and fell towards the excavator. Parts of the falling elevator shaft fell on the driver’s cab. The 33-year-old was trapped and seriously injured. His colleagues immediately alerted the emergency services.
Fire brigade freed excavator drivers
The emergency services of the Neumarkt fire brigade experienced scary moments, which were eventually able to free the man with another crawler excavator. The 33-year-old was flown to the regional hospital in Klagenfurt after first aid with the rescue helicopter C11.
