At the beginning of March, a Pongauer (24) raced away from the police in a drug addiction: agents followed the man’s car for two hours. After daring maneuvers, the driver broke through the barriers of a level crossing for an approaching train. In the subdistrict court he repented on Wednesday: “I had a blackout”.
Prosecutor Ricarda Eder told the accused during the trial in the regional court: “A collision with the train could have put you and the lives of the twelve passengers in real danger. You also, through gross negligence, endangered the lives of police officers. brought.”
During the chase on the Tauernautobahn and on local roads, the drug driver had carried out “risky overtaking maneuvers” and even tried to repel police patrols. To get rid of the officers, he ran over a level crossing in Pfarrwerfen despite an approaching train and broke through the barriers. He then parked his vehicle near his home and hid in a basement until he was arrested.
In the car of the 24-year-old, agents also found narcotics: 80 grams of cannabis. That’s probably why he ran away from the police. It is not the only accusation against the Pongauer, who already has two previous convictions: in June, according to an indictment at the Salzburger Dult, he offered cocaine to a minor.
sorry confession
The defender speaks of a “relapse” during drug treatment. The suspect also admitted: “I had a blackout. I’m glad no one got hurt. I am truly sorry.” The 24-year-old would like to “go back to normal life” and visit the social services for this. He asked for a lenient sentence for his lawyer.
The jury decided on two years of partially suspended prison terms: he would have to serve at least six of the 24 months in prison. “It was just all too much,” the judge underlined the dangerous circumstances of the chase. “What if the train had caught you.” She also offered the defendant the option of being handcuffed to serve his sentence. He accepted the verdict the same way the prosecutor did, so it’s final.
