Hundreds of students in Vienna feel cheated with money and fear they will end up innocently on the streets. Were you hired by a corrupt landlord?
The student organization speaks of a mega scandal. Hundreds of students in Vienna are suffering. Each of them could drop at least 550 euros deposit and lose their roof over their heads. The story is difficult. It is about a large and renowned accommodation provider (Viennabase), which offers students from all over the world “1600 attractive housing units – from single rooms with private bathroom to studio apartments” in their homes.
However, Viennabase does not rent out all the rooms itself, but has partly outsourced this service to a subcontractor, housingvienna. The director of this sub-company has apparently not paid any user fees to Viennabase for six months.
WOh, are millions gone?
According to information from “Krone”, the amount is in the millions. According to Wien Holding (to which Viennabase belongs), several legal proceedings are pending in this case. There should also be an eviction in the room. The HousingVienna company regularly changes its business address. The director tells the “Krone” that he cannot answer questions at the moment. Maybe later. In any case, the residents are very concerned.
“We are currently inundated with many applications. Many students are concerned about whether they will be able to stay in their homes,” says the student organization (ÖH). Mario Scalet of the Vienna site development (WSE) tries to calm down: “No one will end up on the street “We are working on “unbureaucratic solutions”. However, Scalet cannot say whether the students will ever get their deposit of 550 euros back. It doesn’t look good.
