“I’m not and I don’t want to be pessimistic. We have some data that will allow us to maintain a relatively optimistic position in terms of economic growth in the midst of this uncertainty.” Thus began the interview on Radio Euskadi with the Minister of Economy and Finance of the Basque Government, Pedro Azpiazu, when he was asked about the political and economic course ahead. As he said, the Basque Country’s position today is “very solid” and, “although the future is not written”, “in the Basque Country I rule out a recession”.
Azpiazu believes that the Basque economy can grow “more than 4%” in 2022 and therefore expects that, after analyzing the macroeconomic picture, the current forecast of 4.5% should be revised, in any case it will ” very few”.
“Another thing will be in 2023,” he clarifies. The Basque government had initially estimated growth of 4.1, which will “certainly be revised downwards” as environmental economic data affects the Basque economy. “But we are sure it will go above 2%, i.e. we will slow the growth rate but still be above potential, which is positive in this context,” he explains.
