While politicians are still struggling for help despite exploding costs, a Viennese brothel is already adjusting prices with a ‘ceiling’ to inflation. And at the same time – like many companies – fights against staff shortages.
As is well known, it is the oldest trade in the world and, according to popular belief, will never die – but in economic crises like the current one, even horizontal business struggles to survive. “We don’t make money from the rich – our regular customer is the ‘little guy’. Of course, he will save his money mainly for rent and heating costs,” says the Viennese “king of Laufhaus” Peter Laskaris, who has already made headlines with Christoph Lielacher with a vaccination campaign in the Funpalast sauna club.
“All red light companies in Vienna have been struggling with losses of up to 50 percent since Corona. And the situation is not getting any better.” Therefore, from Friday, the business partners are introducing a price ceiling for their new brothel project, the “jezzABER amüsierCLUB” in Donaustadt. With a fixed entry price from 69 euros.
Staff shortage in horizontal trade
In addition, the red light district, like many other service businesses, has an acute shortage of staff. “We used to receive ten applications a week even during the Corona wedding. But there have been no more applications for a long time,” says Peter Laskaris, who attributes this development to the general uncertainty – whether it be construction workers, insurance brokers or prostitutes.
