A motorist fled the Viennese police at breakneck speed on Friday night, endangering a pedestrian and a cyclist. The chase stretched as far as Lower Austria, until it was named the speeder’s final destination.
The driver ignored the red traffic light at the intersection of Perfektastrasse and Altmannsdorfer Strasse around 10:45 p.m. This was noticed by police officers who then wanted to arrest the suspect.
Escape up to 250 km/h
However, the driver stepped on the accelerator and drove off. “The ensuing pursuit headed north on the A23, via Favoriten and the S1 towards Schwechat,” police spokesman Markus Dittrich said on Friday. The car reached top speeds of up to 250 km/h.
congestion generated
While fleeing, a cyclist was nearly hit by the car, a pedestrian could only save himself by jumping aside, Dittrich continued. The pursuit reached as far as Fischamend in Lower Austria. There, other alarmed police officers managed to create an artificial traffic jam, so that the speed demon could eventually be stopped. The 18-year-old Serb was arrested. License plates were found in the car, which turned out to be stolen.
Death drive on the ring, wife died
Just a few days ago, a 48-year-old woman died on the Vienna Ring. Her car was rammed into by another car after the driver ran out of the intersection at a red light. The Syrian, who lives in Belgium, is now allowed to leave Austria. He is still under investigation for gross negligence of manslaughter.
