For two years, the corona pandemic delayed the country’s largest folk culture festival, this year it returns in all its glory. Thousands of visitors gathered in the mood for the inner city of Graz in ten squares on Saturday! Tomorrow at 10:00 it will continue – with beer taps, the waltz world record attempt and a lot of Styrian culture.
As an Aufsteirern fan, the glass is half full: after a completely rainy Friday it was cool on Saturday, but luckily it was dry. As early as 10 a.m., the first couples in traditional costume poured into the city center of Graz, where the traditional Oberlandler Kirtag took place in the already full Landhaushof (you can read all background information about the Oberlandler in this story). “We are very lucky with the weather, the courtyard is full and the atmosphere is really good,” says club board member Klaus Weikhard.
The candidate for the Federal President, Gerald Grosz, was also present on the first day: “Now we pay tribute to the barley juice, the new freedom, the traditional costume, the Styrian coziness and also some political conversation.” general public should also take advantage of his comrades a few on Sunday.
At 12 o’clock it also started in almost ten other locations. The large stage in the main square was devoted all day to wind, brass and ska music. The Schmiedgasse has traditionally become a traditional costume mile. Folk dancing is popular in the courtyard, which is used for the first time. While Freiheitsplatz has traditional dance music until the evening, Karmeliterplatz draws the arc from folk music to modern sounds. And of course there is the tastiest regional cuisine everywhere!
On Sundays, the entire city center becomes a stage
On Aufsteirern Sunday (from 10 a.m.), the entire city center becomes the only stage, with music, costumes, singing, handicrafts and culinary delights on 19 seats. At 11.30 am, a world record attempt will also take place on the Passamtswiese: more than 1,600 pairs of waltzes simultaneously. No prior knowledge and pre-registration are required, just come along!
“Krone” makes gifts and invites children to go fishing
The “Krone” is also strongly represented as a partner of the Aufsteirern. On Saturdays, our Vorteilswelt customers can get a pretzel and a fan (until 6pm) at the “Krone” booth in the main square on presentation of the “Krone” bonus card, get fish from the tank, receive a gift.
On Sunday the “Krone” will be represented with a second stand at the IJzeren Poort. Here, bonus cardholders will again receive pretzels and fans (10am to 6pm) – a photo box is waiting in the main square (also 10am to 6pm)! And in the courtyard of the castle all children are invited to go fishing again.
