The general manager of the factory Mercedes-Benz Spain in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Emilio Titos presented to the mayor of the capital of Alava, Gorka Urtaran, the company’s proposal to reclassify the residential area of ’sector 5B’ of Zabalgana for industrial use, including a new industrial sector of 23 hectaresadjacent to the current amenities towards the SOUTH zone of Las Arenas street.

Now the city council must tackle as soon as possible the processing of the urban adaptations needed for the project to expand the factory of a German multinational in Vitoria-Gasteiz.

As explained by the Consistory, this proposal avoids occupying new untapped land, “respecting” the nature reserve of the Green Belt area and in particular Zabalgana Park. In addition, the resulting zoning plan retains the separation between housing and industry that now occurs on Mariturri boulevard.

Urtaran has stated that this is “a important day for Vitoria-Gasteiz and Euskadi“, as the future of the capital of Alava “depends to a large extent” on the future of its industry, in which the Mercedes project “is the key”.

The mayor appreciates the “commitment” of the German multinational to Vitoria-Gasteiz and has explained to the general manager of the factory in the capital of Alava that he can count on the city council as an “ally” for the expansion and consolidation of the factory to the south.

“In times of uncertainty, the consolidation of the company has a direct effect on 5,000 families and on the aid economy of the municipality and the Basque Country,” he said.

Urtaran has also emphasized Mercedes-Benz Vitoria’s approach “in line with the urban model we defend for the city”.
