The United States suspects that North Korea could supply weapons to Russia – but the isolated country wants nothing to do with this: a senior official at the North Korean Defense Ministry made it clear that these were just rumours. “We have never exported weapons or ammunition to Russia and will not do so,” he told state news agency KCNA.
The North Korean Defense Ministry has said the US and other “enemy forces” are launching rumors of an arms deal with Moscow. The US government had already expressed suspicions a few weeks ago that North Korea was selling ammunition on a large scale to Russia.
No evidence of North Korean weapons in conflict in Ukraine
In particular, Vedant Patel, deputy spokesman for the United States Department of State, spoke of millions of artillery shells and missiles. White House national security spokesman John Kirby later said there was no sign of any weapons purchase being completed or used in Ukraine. North Korea is also accused of violating a UN Security Council resolution, North Korea said.
North Korea deploys troops in eastern Ukraine
North Korean ruler Kim Jong-un had offered thousands of soldiers to the Russian army instead of weapons. A Russian defense expert spoke of “100,000 North Korean volunteers ready to join the conflict”. Countless construction workers and specialists have already been sent to the war zone in eastern Ukraine to help with the “reconstruction”.
