Six people were injured in a shooting at a school campus in Oakland, California. Two of the victims have life-threatening injuries. At least one shooter is still being sought.
The investigations are still in full swing, the police have not yet been able to arrest any suspects, police chief Darren Allison announced on Wednesday (local time). The victims were all people over the age of 18, it said. The multi-school campus was cordoned off after the incident.
Mayor is shocked
Such gun violence at a school “shakes the soul,” Oakland mayor Libby Schaaf wrote on Twitter. Schools should be safe havens for children. According to Schaaf, “uncontrolled access to weapons” in the US is unforgivable.
Firearms are relatively easy to obtain in the United States. For the first time in 2020, gun injuries were the number one cause of death for children and young people in the United States, even before traffic accidents.
