IT security researchers from US provider Cluster25 have found an infected PowerPoint file from Russia that was apparently used to spy on Western governments. It interferes with the PC when you move the mouse – and was probably commissioned by the Kremlin. Here’s how the Russian cyber weapon works.
Cluster25 examined the infected file in detail and discovered a few quirks that indicate a large-scale and possibly ongoing spy operation by the hacker group APT28 “Fancy Bear”. This hacker group has repeatedly appeared in spectacular actions in recent years and is said to work for Putin’s secret service. This time too, APT28 worked very cleverly.
