Due to a serious traffic accident at a level crossing in Mauthausen in Upper Austria, the ÖBB route had to be closed on Saturday evening. An elderly couple had ended up in a watershed and had to be rescued from the wreckage with injuries.
A 75-year-old from Katsdorf was driving on Saturday around 7 p.m. with her husband of the same age on the B123 near Mauthausen in the direction of Ried in der Riedmark. Shortly before a level crossing there, the woman lost control of the wheel for unknown reasons. It left the road on the right, broke through a ÖBB fence and eventually came to rest in a water basin in the opposite direction.
ÖBB calamity coordinator on call
Due to the difficult recovery of the car, the BB emergency coordinator was immediately informed and a railway closure was arranged. The two car occupants were injured indefinitely and were taken to Kepler University Hospital in Linz after first aid.
The Haid and Mauthausen fire brigade was deployed with a total of six vehicles and 37 men. The roadblock was lifted around 7:45 p.m.
