LABORATORYthe majority union at the Siemens Gamesa plant in Asteasu, has reached an agreement with management that, in its own words, “guarantees the future of employment” at this Gipuzkoa plant.
The Basque power station has stressed in a statement the importance that this agreement will acquire after the wind turbine manufacturer announced it would cut some 2,900 jobs worldwide475 of them in the Spanish state.
LAB explained that the agreement reached, in addition to extending the company agreement, guarantees the workload, the future of employment and the working conditions.
For its part, the company is closed on Tuesdays meeting to the union branches of CCOO, UGT and ELA throughout the state.
The general secretary of CCOO at Siemens Gamesa and chairman of one of Zamudio’s seven works councils, Clara Fernandezconfirmed that in that meeting, the trade union “frontal” rejection of layoffs and he will claim something that has been demanded “for a long time” and it is “an industrial and future plan” for the company in the state, in addition to “employment foreclosure”.
The union official has said they don’t have any details for now on how this adjustment could affect different parts of the business or zones, but they think it could be aimed more at offices.
In his opinion, this adjustment is “not justified” and he has indicated that the rest of the companies in the sector also have “disadvantages” like those of Siemens Gamesa. The CCOO representative believes that “some of the blame” lies with the company’s management, where “permanent changes of CEO” have taken place, and has assured that Gamesa was “a profitable company”, but “since its arrival of Siemens this has not been the case”. “We have suffered billions of losses and it is not the fault of the staff,” he said.
