Italy has seized some properties of two Russian oligarchs in the well-known seaside resort of Portofino in Liguria, in Sirmione on Lake Garda and in Rome. For example, the Villa Altachiara in Portofino and a car in Rome belonging to Eduard Khudainatov, the former head of Russian energy giant Rosneft, were seized.
Khudainatov was blacklisted by Russian oligarchs with assets in Europe after the war started in Ukraine in February, Italy’s financial police said. His net worth is about 57 million euros.
In May, Italian police seized a luxury yacht worth about EUR 700 million, believed to belong to Khudainatov and which the media had linked to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Police also seized a property in Sirmione worth more than 15 million euros. Its owner is Grigory Bereskin, chairman of Esn, a Russian private equity group.
Seized assets of approximately 1.7 billion euros
Italy seized more than €900 million worth of villas and yachts in March and April from wealthy Russians who regularly vacationed in the country and bought properties in many prestigious locations. The total value of assets seized so far by Russian oligarchs in Italy is more than 1.7 billion euros, according to an updated official list from the financial police.
