The number of patients requiring care in hospitals due to a corona infection continues to rise. Over the weekend, the number rose in both normal and intensive care. Those are the highest figures in more than seven months. Also for the previous day, 8,299 new infections were reported. Another death was registered.
In the normal wards, an increase of 211 corona patients was reported (total 2310 beds occupied), and an increase of 19 patients in intensive care (total 118 beds occupied) – a total of 2428 corona patients in hospitals. These are the highest numbers since the end of March, when a total of 2,484 infected people were in hospitals and on April 14 there were more intensive care patients with 120 seriously ill.
Another corona death has been reported since Sunday, 47 deaths in the past week alone. In the week before, there were a total of 37 deaths. In total, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 20,825 lives in Austria since it broke out. 230.7 people per 100,000 inhabitants have already died as a result of corona infection.
The data status of the epidemiological reporting system (EMS) related to the corona pandemic in Austria is updated daily in the afternoon on the dashboard of AGES (Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety). The data reflects what happens between midnight and midnight of the respective event day before wider.
