Ukrainian authorities bring the death toll to 19 in Monday’s attacks on Kiev and other cities

Russia continues its bombing campaign across Ukraine. A day after launching a large-scale attack on several cities in the country – which left at least 19 dead and 105 injured on Tuesday, according to a report – the Kremlin has reported a series of attacks on Ukrainian electrical installations.

“Today, Russian armed forces have continued to launch massive attacks with high-precision long-range weapons, from land or naval bases, against military and electrical installations in Ukraine,” the ministry said.

“All objectives have been achieved. All designated points have been hit,” the ministry added in a daily statement, without specifying the number of bombings or the places attacked.

At least one person has been killed in a 12-rocket attack on the city of Zaporizhzhya. The regional police chief, Artem Kysko, has reported the destruction of a school and an orphanage. “There was no military target near the attacked sites,” he said at a news conference.

In addition, authorities of the Lviv region, in the west, indicated that at least three Russian missiles hit the energy infrastructure and the mayor of the regional capital stated that about a third of the city was without electricity.

The governors of Vinnitsa, Dnipropetrovsk and Lviv provinces have also denounced that Russian missiles hit electrical installations on their territory. Ukraine’s foreign minister Dmitro Kuleba has accused Russia of committing “war crimes” by deliberately bombing critical energy infrastructure to “leave civilians in unbearable conditions”.

On Tuesday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu urged Russia and Ukraine to agree a ceasefire as soon as possible. Ukrainian President Volodímir Zelensky will intervene ahead of an emergency G7 meeting. Before that meeting, Russia has stated that it expects a “great confrontation” with the West.
