Passengers of the Nightjet of the Austriansterreichische Bundesbahnen (ÖBB), which traveled from Vienna to Amsterdam on Tuesday night, encountered uninvited fellow passengers. They found several bed bugs in her bedding. ÖBB made further improvements after the incident.
They immediately raised the alarm, the ORF reported. The train was then stopped and the affected wagon cleared. The passengers had to move because the entire compartment was affected. ÖBB confirmed the incident.
Deep cleaning
A passenger reported that by then, luggage and clothing were already infested with vermin. “We responded immediately and distributed the affected passengers among other cars. The entire car was locked for passengers and thoroughly cleaned,” says ÖBB spokesman Bernhard Rieder. “For this we would like to apologize to the passengers. The affected passengers will of course be compensated.”
Very rare according to BB
According to ÖBB, insects on board are very rare and are usually brought on board unnoticed by luggage. “For this reason, ÖBB pays attention to high hygiene standards and regular cleaning cycles in all our trains. Our Nightjets are regularly and thoroughly cleaned. In the event of an insect infestation, the carriages are immediately parked and checked.”
