Kherson Focus – After Withdrawal: New Russian Front in Southern Ukraine

Date:

After withdrawing about 20 kilometers north of Ukraine’s Kherson region in early October, the Russian army is apparently trying to consolidate the new front line west of the city of Mylove. The British Ministry of Defense said in its daily situation report that this line was still heavily disputed. Due to the Ukrainian advance, the Russians no longer benefited from the protection of the Inhulez River. Most Russian units are also undermanned.

The British situation report also shows that the Russian occupation authorities in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson would probably expect the fighting to spread to the city area. “In recent days, the occupation authorities have probably ordered preparations to evacuate some civilians from Kherson,” the statement said on Twitter. It is therefore likely that they expected fighting to occur within the city.

Drone strikes again on Kiev, Odessa and Kherson
Meanwhile, on Thursday morning, new Russian airstrikes hit critical infrastructure in the region of the capital Kiev. Kyrylo Tymoshenko, deputy head of the cabinet of the President of Ukraine, said the attack was again a matter of Iranian kamikaze drones. Four of these Iran-made Shahed-136 drones were also shot down overnight over the Odessa region and two more in the Kherson region near Mykolaiv, according to Ukraine’s Ukrinform news agency.

The village of Mylowe, almost 100 kilometers east of Kherson: According to British information, the Russians would consolidate their positions here.

In the past 24 hours, 17 Iranian kamikaze drones and two Russian ZALA Lancet drones have been destroyed. Ukraine has reported a spate of Russian attacks with Shahed-136 drones in recent weeks. Iran denies supplying the drones to Russia. The leadership in Moscow does not comment on this.

Five-storey apartment building destroyed
The city of Mykolayiv, located in the south near the Black Sea, was hit by heavy rocket fire overnight. “A five-storey apartment building was hit, the top two floors were completely destroyed, the rest is in ruins. Rescue workers are on the scene,” said Mayor Oleksandr Senkevich.

According to the Ukrainian General Staff, 40 Ukrainian settlements and cities have been hit by Russian missiles in the past 24 hours. The Ukrainian Air Force, in turn, carried out 32 strikes against 25 Russian targets.
