Anti-oil activists have thrown tomato soup at the famous painting Sunflowers by Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh in London. The two members of the organization Just Stop Oil poured the contents of two cans over the artwork in the National Gallery on Friday morning.
The statue, which has an estimated value of around 84 million euros, has not been permanently damaged.
After the two women had done their act, they taped their hands to the wall under the photo.
Security forces eventually led the activists away. The two are charged with property damage and serious misdemeanors.
“Is art worth more than life? More than food? More than justice,” Just Stop Oil tweeted. “The cost of living and climate crisis are driven by oil and gas.”
