Despite the call to save energy, the first shopping street in Vienna’s third district is already shining.
Gingerbread is already available in the summer and the right Christmas lights come in golden October. Even though Christmas Eve is only two months away, it’s already Christmas in the city. At least in the third district. Last Friday the Christmas lights on the Landstrasser Hauptstrasse were placed and lit immediately. If yes, then yes.
The Vienna Chamber of Commerce, which is responsible for the shopping streets, says: “The lights are tested after hanging, ie switched on as a test. We assume that was such a test.” But Monday evening everything was brightly lit again…
How does that actually fit with the need of the hour, namely saving energy?
Most high street shops would have agreed that this time the lights would only be on between November 18 and January 8 and only between 3 and 10 pm instead of until midnight as before. The lighting has also all been converted to LED lamps. In 2021 they shone about 660 hours, this year it should be just 384 hours.
