When driving downhill – first the braking effect decreased, then the car caught fire

Date:

Because the braking performance of his vehicle decreased while driving downhill on the Loiblpass Straße (B91) in Carinthia, a 35-year-old German sent his car into a parking lot. Just in time – because suddenly flames burst from the engine compartment.

The 35-year-old man from Germany was driving his car on the B91 Loiblpass towards Ferlach when he noticed that the brakes were no longer working properly. He quickly steered the car into a parking lot in Unterloibl. A short time later, flames came out of the engine compartment. A resident tried to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, but to no avail.

Fire extinguished with foam
When the alarmed emergency services from Unterbergen and Ferlach FF arrived, the car was already fully ablaze. “With two respiratory protection teams, the fire was quickly brought under control. In the end, the fire was finally extinguished with foam,” reports FF Unterbergen. No one was injured or endangered by the fire, and the vehicle was a total loss.
