A young woman who wore her hijab too loosely was killed. Mahsa Amini (22) was the spark that ignited the powder keg of Iranian society. It’s been over a month now. Since then, thousands of people around the world have taken to the streets. Iranian police arrest activists – including children – and the death toll rises.
“If I leave the house, I have a fifty-fifty chance of coming back alive,” said Mahsa Abdolzadeh, describing the story of a friend who lives in Tehran. Abdolzadeh was born in Iran, now lives in Austria and is a district councilor for the Greens in Vienna-Döbling. She still keeps in touch with friends and family back home.
