Boredom, a lack of prospects, poor role models, distorted social media realities and misunderstood masculinity. Petty criminals, underage gangs, often with a migration background and mostly from the social hotspots of Austrian cities, have become a political problem at least since the escalations on Halloween night. But hardly anyone thinks of the often underage victims during the heated discussions: the figures speak for themselves.
About 200 youths had caused chaos and destruction in the center of Linz on Halloween night, even fireworks and glass bottles were thrown at passers-by and also at the police officers who were deployed in large numbers. Particularly frightening: the teens had agreed to use excessive force on TikTok. There were 130 reports and arrests. The young men come mainly from Afghanistan, Syria and Chechnya: anyone who is in an asylum procedure was immediately withdrawn.
