For three years, a 71-year-old from Bosnia is said to have received social benefits through the fake registration of a residential address in Graz. The police were able to track him down abroad.
In January 2019, the man’s alleged Social Security fraud began. He registered a residence in the Styrian capital and then applied for an invalidity pension with a compensatory benefit.
Thousands of euros flowed into the Bosnian’s account for years before an employee of the pension insurer had the first suspicions. Police were finally called last March and immediately began investigations extending to Croatia and Bosnia.

Finally, the suspicion was confirmed that the man does not live in Graz at all and so had only made a mock registration. He is now suspected of having illegally obtained a total of 18,600 euros.
Because the social benefit he is applying for is reserved for pension recipients residing in Austria. The Bosnian has been reported to the public prosecutor in Graz on suspicion of serious trade fraud.
