81-year-old Georg was driven back to his hometown to visit his family and friends for the last time in the former pub. He spent a very happy day before returning to the nursing home in Braunau.
Unfortunately, the doctors have already declared retired forest worker Georg “out of therapy”. Until January of this year, the resident of the Innviertel was still considered healthy. But then the 81-year-old suddenly developed cancer and several strokes followed.
Leg amputation and palliative care unit
His right leg also had to be amputated. Since then, Georg has been constantly moving from his nursing home in Braunau to the palliative care department and back again.
His dearest wish: to visit his former home and his friends in Munderfing again.
Home again
The association “Rolling Angels” made this possible for him, took him to the house of his relatives, who were already waiting for him, and served coffee and cake. The joy was great when he also saw six-month-old Julian. We spent the rest of the morning together in the garden.
Toasted with friends
Then it went to his former favorite landlord, where Georg had played cards every Thursday for decades at the regular table. The friends greeted “Schurli” with thunderous applause and standing ovations. There was a lot of chatting and laughing.
Sausage and beer
Georg ate his beloved vinegar sausage again and – because of his swallowing problems – drank an alcohol-free, thickened beer. After a heartfelt farewell, an extra tour of the home city followed. Tired but overjoyed, Georg was taken back to the nursing home.
