An internationally wanted jihadist has been captured by Hungarian border police. As has only now become known through a media report, the Tajik citizen, who had fought alongside the Islamic State (IS) terror militia against government forces in Syria, attempted to enter Hungary via Ukraine in early November.
As the news magazine ‘hvg’ reports on its website, the now-arrested man traveled with his father via Turkey to Syria in 2016, where the two joined the jihadists. The illegal border commuter is wanted by Tajik authorities for war crimes.
The IS fighter was spotted by Hungarian authorities during a check on the northeastern Hungarian border near Zahony. Their systems allegedly spat out the international arrest warrant, the report continues. Moments later, the handcuffs clicked. It is not known what the Tajik wanted in Hungary or where he wanted to go.
