“Krone” up close – hands up: behind the scenes of the police academy

Date:

Aspiring police officers at school: The “Krone” accompanied them for a day and was also present at the training at the security academy in Lower Austria – registrations for the start of the course in March are still possible.

Nadine Größ did it: at the age of 34 she fulfilled her dream. The mother of two has been going to school since June and is following the two-year police training at the training center of the Security Academy (SIAK) in Traiskirchen. “The job has always interested and fascinated me because of its versatility. From public relations to crime scene work, the opportunities are huge,” says the former office worker. It was definitely the right time for Größ to apply.

chance taken
“The corona crisis got me thinking. After all, I felt called to do it and jumped at the chance,” says the 34-year-old. Since then, she has not regretted her decision for a day. With about 28 classmates in each class, we have been diligently learning and practicing ever since : from technical training and weapons control to legal studies and personality development, the entire spectrum is also covered in the training.

“Stop, police! Raise your hands, look at me!” the candidate calls out to her practice partner. During heavy duty training, every move has to be perfect in order to be prepared for an emergency. “In addition to automated processes, you also have to master the equipment while you sleep,” explains trainer Christian Gschiel. The students between the 18 and 52 years are very concentrated – because it is the technique that counts, not the strength.

For future official Nadine Größ, it is also important to “keep a cool head” and master the right techniques in case of an emergency. For her as a future policewoman, “good looks, self-confidence, empathy and controlled calmness” count.

Various options are offered
Christian Pauer has also been training as a police officer since June. A former militia soldier, he was drafted into the police force at the age of 51. “When I found out there was no longer an age limit, I signed up right away,” he says. Since then, he has been able to benefit from his experience during his training and proves that it is never too late to realize his professional dream.

application process is underway
58 aspiring police students who have already successfully completed the three-day selection – with a sports test, psychological aptitude and admission interview – are doing the same. They will start their training in December. For the course that starts in March, registration is still possible until November 30.
