Acquittal of abuse charges
On Wednesday, the Styrian and his now ex-girlfriend, with whom he has a nine-month-old baby, stood before the court in Graz for animal abuse. The man, who was mentally ill and had previously been convicted of animal cruelty, was also charged with sexually abusing his ex – but was eventually acquitted on this count.

Judge Andreas Lenz painted a bleak picture: The 30-year-old took over her parents’ farm and was apparently completely overwhelmed with the care of about 40 cats. The 32-year-old is serving a one-year prison sentence and is being sent to an institution for mentally deviant offenders. His ex was sentenced to a fine of 720 euros and six months in prison (not final). In addition, they are banned from keeping animals.
