Big deal – The scammer duo sold fake vaccination certificates

Date:

Two Styrians were now caught by chance: they had set up a real trade network with fake vaccination certificates. The police were actually investigating one of the two for a different crime.

The two men (46 and 49 years old) are said to have traded covid certificates on a large scale and commercially in the Leibnitz district. The duo obtained the certificates from a counterfeiter in Romania and sold them in Styria.

One of the two perpetrators has already confessed, the second only partially. The police first became aware of the duo through him, because the man has a lot on his plate.

Made up after borrowing
As early as June 2021, Leibnitz’s detectives started an investigation against the 46-year-old because he was suspected of fraudulent Krida. He had taken out a loan from a bank and refused to pay it back because he had neither wealth nor income.

A little later he wrote out his place of residence in Austria and indicated that he would emigrate to Ghana. However, the police were able to track him down in Romania and confront him with the allegations during a home visit in August.

A house search and bank account opening revealed that the man had deposited a total of 300,000 euros in banks and also had a monthly income of 4,000 euros. It is not yet clear where these cash flows come from. Subsequently, the trade in false vaccination certificates also came to light.
