Mourning in the Czech Republic – volunteer organist (18) murdered in church

The murder of a young man in a Catholic church has sparked outrage in the Czech Republic. The 18-year-old was found dead in the church in Baska municipality near Frydek-Mistek, a police spokeswoman said on Friday. He volunteered as a church organist and had a key to the church to rehearse.

The police have arrested a 20-year-old acquaintance of the young man who is charged with murder in a particularly serious case. He allegedly attacked and killed his victim in St Wenceslas Church for unspecified personal reasons. Police say he could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

Bishop appalled
Baska has almost 4000 inhabitants and is located in the far east of the Czech Republic. The Bishop of Ostrava-Opava Diocese, Martin David, expressed his condolences. He recently confirmed the young man. The news of his death fills him with great pain. He prays for him and his family.
