British street artist Banksy recently confirmed that he left a total of seven graffiti on ruins in Ukraine. Now one of his works is carved out of the wall of a burnt-out house in Hostomel, a suburb of Kiev.
The police intervened after a call from neighbors. They had seen the image being cut out of the thermal insulation. A group of eight people between the ages of 27 and 60 has been arrested, according to Kiev region police chief Andriy Nebytov. They are suspected of stealing the photo of a woman in a dressing gown and a respirator. The graffiti has since been secured.
Ministry of Culture decides on the fate of the work
The head of the gang is said to be a resident of Kiev, born in 1990. Nothing is known about the motive. The Ministry of Culture has now been called in to decide on the further fate of the photo.
In November it was revealed that the mysterious artist Banksy left several works in the war-ravaged suburbs of Kiev and in the Ukrainian capital itself.
