US President Joe Biden and his wife Jill earned a whopping $610,000 last year (currently $560,764.85). That’s according to Biden’s 2021 tax return, which the White House routinely released Friday. The couple paid a total of about $184,000 in taxes. The government center stressed that Biden has been making tax returns publicly available for 24 years so far.
The publication of tax returns is part of US policy for the president and other high-ranking politicians. Biden’s predecessor Donald Trump, however, had always rejected this tradition as president. Trump has long been embroiled in lawsuits over his financial and tax records, and he goes to great lengths and in various ways to avoid disclosure of documents. In 2020, amid the then presidential election campaign, the New York Times reported that the Republican had barely paid taxes for years. Trump denied that.
US Vice President Earned More Than Her Boss
According to the White House, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, reported income of approximately $1.66 million for 2021, on which they paid approximately $700,000 in taxes. The New York Times reported Friday that income from home sales and Harris’s memoirs added to the two’s earnings. In 2019, the two had a total income of nearly $3.3 million. Harris was a senator at the time, and Emhoff had a lucrative job as a lawyer.
