The images leaked to animal rights activists are intense: they show thousands of chickens crammed together in a bare hall, sticking together. And they show how animals are ruthlessly crushed by a forklift truck. The shocking recordings are said to have been made in a Styrian company that is AMA qualified.
In the poultry farm, which fattens more than 60,000 chickens in its stables, horrific scenes have taken place, according to the association against animal factories (VGT), the recordings are from the summer.

A slaughterhouse is supplied that cuts and processes poultry for major customers such as Lidl. “Not only do you see the appalling conditions in these animal factories and the animal suffering due to growing too quickly, but also that when the chickens are collected for transport to the slaughterhouse, some of the animals are simply run over by the freezing cold. This shows how little a living being is worth to the animal industry,” the letter said.
The VGT has reported a violation of the Animal Welfare Act and the first Livestock Bye-Law. “It is unbelievable how many chickens are relegated to products in our society. The breeds used for fattening are clearly torture breeds. The Animal Welfare Act prohibits the use of animals of such breeds, but the enormous greed for masses of cheap chicken meat seems to overturn this law.”
