Things went wrong for two 15-year-old Viennese, who probably wanted to supplement their pocket money with “Dum Bum” fireworks. The guard service in Vienna-Brigittenau took away a total of 1,350 of the pyrotechnic objects that they said they wanted to sell on the street. The two teens have been charged.
The two boys were caught with their goods by police officers from the special unit around 5 p.m. on Wednesday during a focus action in the Handelskai district near Maria-Restituta-Platz. During an inspection, some of the pyrotechnics were found in the backpacks of the two.
The two youths then took the other part from their apartment and voluntarily handed it over to the officials. This ended the planned street sale, which they said they had previously announced on social media.
About three tons per year
In order to prevent danger and nuisance caused by the improper use of fireworks, the police generally take action against all violations of the Pyrotechnics Act. Pyrotechnic items sold, possessed or used in violation of the law may be confiscated by the police.
In Austria, about three tons of material are seized each year, which are then destroyed by the Federal Criminal Investigation Department’s defusal service, according to the state police’s online presence.
