New insights? – JFK assassination: 13,000 secret documents released

Date:

Despite his short tenure, John F. Kennedy is still regarded as one of the most influential and popular American presidents. The Democratic politician who was assassinated in 1963 is still a myth. And even nearly 60 years after the assassination, there are countless conspiracy theories surrounding the historic November 22, 1963. The incumbent administration under President Joe Biden has now released about 13,000 previously-kept secret documents about the JFK assassination.

White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said in Washington Thursday that, according to Biden, “any information related to the assassination of President Kennedy in the broadest sense” must be made public. Other documents remained under lock and key for security reasons. They are said to be in the process of being published.

Part remains under lock and key
A White House statement said national archives and other relevant agencies have until May next year to review and reclassify the material, which remains classified. After that, everything will be published if there is no other classification.

Kennedy was shot to death on November 22, 1963 in an open car in Dallas, Texas. The Democratic politician was only 46 years old. Investigations at the time concluded that hitman Lee Harvey Oswald, who later shot himself, acted alone. Yet all sorts of conspiracy theories persist to this day. Experts now hope for new insights from the documents.

CIA: “History will not change”
The CIA commented on the material released on Thursday that it “will not change history.” “We are not aware of any documents related to Lee Harvey Oswald that are not yet part of the data collected.”
