In about 40 journeys a day, residents of Guntschach in Carinthia are transported and cared for after a stone fall over the Drau. The volunteer ferrymen are also on duty during the Christmas holidays and even transport international guests. But people are especially enthusiastic about a crossing.
It’s been almost a week since a rock massif fell from the Hemmafelsen and tore away a longer section of Guntschacher Straße (we reported). In addition to an alternative route, which can initially only be used by off-road vehicles under six tons, the Valentine ferry is currently the only connection between Guntschach and the outside world.
