Serious allegations – paratroopers involved in Bucha massacre?

Date:

After months of investigating the massacre in the western Ukrainian city of Bucha, the New York Times made serious accusations against a unit of the Russian army. The American newspaper published a 28-minute video on Thursday detailing the background and results of its investigation, alleging that paratroopers from the 234th Airborne Division were responsible for the deaths of dozens of civilians on Jablunska Street in Bucha.

According to Ukrainian sources, more than 460 bodies were found in Bucha, a suburb of Kiev, in April after the Russian army retreated. The atrocities against the civilian population caused horror worldwide.

Russia denies everything
Russia denies responsibility for the crimes and has said the images of the dead were fabricated.

newspaper article published
“Soldiers have interrogated and executed unarmed men of military age, and they have killed people who inadvertently got in their way – whether it was children fleeing with their families, residents searching for food, or people who just trying to ride their bikes home.” writes the New York Times, which also published a newspaper article about her research.

conversations with residents
According to its own statements, the newspaper spent eight months interviewing residents, evaluating security camera footage and analyzing government documents that showed the Russian 234th Airborne Division’s responsibility for dozens of killings on Jablunska Street.

Phone data evaluated
Phone records also showed that the victims’ phones dialed Russia, in some cases just hours after the victims died.

By comparing data from social networks and conversations with relatives, it was possible to prove that the callers were soldiers of the Russian paratrooper division.
