“There is panic” – Two killed and injured in Paris shooting

According to a local witness, a man was shot in the calf while visiting a hairdresser. In addition, at least five other people were shot on Friday morning, two of whom died of their injuries. Two people are still seriously injured.

A 69-year-old man fired several shots in the street in the 10th arrondissement of Paris (in the Rue d’Enghien, note). According to an eyewitness, there were seven or eight. The incident happened near a Kurdish center. A shopkeeper from a neighboring building spoke of “total panic” and that the staff had locked themselves in for security reasons. The small street is not far from well-known department stores and has many restaurants.

No indication of terrorist motive
A police officer managed to grab the gunman’s gun and take him into custody. According to the newspaper “Daily Mail”, it should be a retired machinist. His motives are still unclear. There are no indications of a terrorist motive. Prosecutors are investigating charges of murder, willful homicide and aggravated violence. Police recommended avoiding the area around the crime scene. The operation, in which the fire service was also involved, has now been completed.

The district mayor wants to go to the scene of the incident. Emmanuel Grégoire, who works for the mayor of Paris, thanked the security forces for their prompt action. His thoughts are with the victims and the witnesses of the attack. Paris has repeatedly been the target of deadly gun and knife attacks in recent years.
